Rocket Scientist in the Making...

Okay, so I'm NOT a huge fan of the science project, it always seems like it's as much work for the parents as the students. Alec, who loves science, came up with the idea this year, "what ratio of vinegar and baking soda produces the greatest reaction?" it was approved and we were supposed to work on it over Christmas break. For Christmas, his grandparents gave him a rocket kit that you build yourself and is fueled by CO2. It was perfect...before, I didn't know exactly how we were going to test and prove "the greatest reaction" and now we could use the rocket, (thanks G&G)! Well, Alec had a great time setting up three trials with Andy, they launched it nine times and even Andy was suprised that it ended up working so well. The rest was up to Alec and me, we were, of course, up way late the night before it was due, but it looked great and Alec was thrilled with the finished board. Turns out, he was chosen, along with five others, to represent the fourth grade at the science fair and be judged. He had to give a presentation and then answer questions, he did GREAT, and we were very proud. After sitting through the PTA meeting and third grade choir concert with two girls who just wanted to be home, they announced the winners. Alec got second place and was so excited!!! The look on his face, made all the rest worth it and this time I was a FAN, at least of my very scientific SON!

Yay Alec! That's so neat he got 2nd place. Tell him we are very proud of him too. And I'm sorry to say, that late night was probably just the first of many you'll spend helping kids with schoolwork over the next 18 years. Good luck!

Congrats to Alec. He even looks like a scientist with his glasses.
Much better project than Andy's gopher killer one.

Good job Alec. Guess you get your smarts from one parent and your procrastination from one parent. It may even be the same parent. Love you guys

That's so exciting that Alec won 2nd place!! I know from talking to Jenn S. about it that their is a lot to the science fair stuff, so I'll bet you felt happy about it too! And yes I will come and help you pack when you need me, or help watching the kids, anytime! My number hasn't changed, and won't change when we return thanks to Vonage! See you soon! Oh, and glad to see you blogging now! =)
